Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (these are available through a link on the How it Works page) As health care needs differ from person to person, choosing a Health Insurance policy with the right level of cover is very important. Please find below the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the Help Me Choose Health Insurance process.

Do I have to pay anything to use HelpMeChoose.com.au?

No. Help Me Choose is a free and independent website and there are absolutely no fees or charges.

What information do I need to do a Health Insurance policy search?

The top 3 health insurance policies we provide to you are based upon the answers you have given to us. The accuracy of these answers will directly impact the accuracy of the results. Some of the information we require includes:

The life status that most closely describes your current situation. Eg. A Family with children, or a Single adult.
The state you reside in, as not all health funds operate Australia-wide.
The type of cover you would like to take out – one of either hospital or extras cover, or both. See ‘Types of Health Insurance cover’ in previous Tips and Tricks page.(unsure if this is a step in the Health Insurance Chooser or not)
The particular health care services that you would like to include in your health insurance cover. These are determined by both your life situation and specific healthcare requirements, and providing these is important in finding an appropriate level of cover. For example, by including pregnancy-related services, you may find yourself paying an unnecessarily high insurance premium should you not intend to have children, whereas if you were planning on having children then you may find yourself with inadequate insurance cover if you had not selected this service.

Are the results accurate?

Yes. Our information is updated with the latest information about different health insurance products and their key features. We receive our data from an independent, federal government source to ensure that we always have the most recent information. We analyse the information you provided us about what is important to you and run it through our complex mathematical formulae to calculate your results.

How do you select the right Health Insurance policy for me?

We use complex mathematical formulae to analyse the information you have provided us to match your needs against the key features of the health insurance products. Each health insurance product in our database is given a ranking as to its match with your needs and the 3 health insurance policies with the highest ranking are displayed as the best fit results.

How does Help Me Choose make money?

Help Me Choose prides itself on being an independent and free site to help you become better informed about making important decisions. In order to keep this service free, we accept small one-off payments from the Health Insurance fund when a customer applies for a health insurance product from our site.

Are the results you provide independent or do you just recommend the products that pay you the most?

We use unbiased mathematical formulas to calculate our best fit recommendations and our commercial relationships have no bearing on the ranking of suppliers in your results.

How do I apply for a Health Insurance policy?

Once you’ve chosen the policy that best fit your needs, choose the health insurance policy that you want to apply for and click on the "Apply Now" button. Simply, fill out the secure online application form at the Health Insurance fund’s website.

What happens if I click ‘Apply’?

We redirect you to your chosen provider’s website to complete the Health Insurance policy application process. You will be required to provide a variety of information.

What information will I need to provide for a Health Insurance product application?

Although it does vary from fund to fund, you will need to provide basic information about yourself such as your name, address, date of birth, driver's license number. Should you be transferring from an existing Health Insurance policy with a different fund, you will most likely be required to provide details of that fund, such as your policy number with them. Also, in order to allow health insurance cover to begin at the time of application, many funds allow applicants to pay their first insurance premium upon application, either by credit card or by establishing a direct-debit withdrawal.

Are online Health Insurance fund applications secure?

All health insurance policy applications linked to from HelpMeChoose feature Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Technology and offer the highest level of internet security involving sophisticated data encryption.
